On my last trip to Miami I managed to squeeze in a session at Ski Rixen. It’s a bit of a drive from Miami to Deerfield but it’s worth it. Located on a little lagoon of water sits a very well run cable park to practice your wake/kite tricks if there’s no wind or boat available. Cable parks are great to practice your edging and rotation to toe-side and back since there is no chop. If this is your first time hearing about a cable park watch this video to see how it works.

I visited Ski Rixen in the middle of the day when there weren’t many riders out which is great so I didn’t have to stop too often. Although there weren’t many people, the select few were very skilled so i decided to take out my camera and shoot some photos! Cable parks are also great for practicing handle passes – especially for kiters since you don’t have to worry about your kite looping away and the impact won’t be as hard. You can then build up the muscle memory to land your handle passes with your kite out on the water.

My favourite part about this cable park is the relaxed and cool vibe there is every time I go. They blast top 40 and 90’s rock music and everyone knows everyone so it is very social. There is a good mix of younger and older riders who are all passionate about cable/wake/kite. I strongly suggest to any other fellow kiters to check out Ski Rixen !!
